JULIE LEUNG is an award-winning author of numerous children’s books. Her picture book, The Truth About Dragons is a 2024 Caldecott Honor and winner of the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. By day, she works in book publishing. She was raised in the sleepy suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, though it may be more accurate to say she grew up in Oz and came of age in Middle-earth.

Julie’s newest picture book biography, Mr. Pei’s Perfect Shapes: The Story of Architect I. M. Pei, will be published in June. Kirkus Reviews said in a starred review: “In language as simple and stately as her subject’s best works, Leung traces the long career of I.M. Pei. Acute and rich in insight.”

About the Visit

In addition to being an author, Julie also works as a publisher at Penguin Random House. She is intimately familiar with every step it takes to turn a story from an idea into a book. In addition to speaking on the subject matter, she is uniquely positioned to talk about the process of bookmaking itself. Below are some of her program offerings. She is more than happy to tailor something bespoke for your audience.
